Jason Soo is an artist and recipient of the\u00a0Jacques Derrida Exhibition and Prize\u00a0(Melbourne, 1999). As filmmaker, his first narrative work (A Short Film on The\u00a0May 13<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Generation)\u00a0is based on historical events in 1954 Singapore, when 800 students\u00a0took over Chinese High School in order to support classmates affected\u00a0by military conscription.\u00a0His next work (1987: Untracing the Conspiracy) examines the arrest, torture, and interrogation of 22 alleged Marxist conspirators by Singapore\u2019s secret police. The documentary was awarded\u00a0Best Southeast Asian Feature\u00a0at Freedom Film Festival (Malaysia, 2015) and an expanded version of the film is currently in production.
